Uganda is a year-round destination, but the seasons shape your safari. Here is how to choose your dates.
Sitting on the equator, Uganda enjoys warm days and cool nights all year. Rather than summer and winter, the year is shaped by dry and wet seasons.
Roughly June to September and December to February are the most popular times to travel. Trails in the gorilla forests are easier to walk, roads to the parks are in better condition and animals gather near water, which makes game viewing easier.
March to May and October to November bring more rain, usually in short afternoon showers rather than all-day downpours. The landscapes are lush, there are fewer visitors and it is a wonderful time for birdwatching, with migratory species arriving. Some lodges also offer lower rates.
You can trek all year round. In the wetter months the forest is muddier, so good boots and a porter make a big difference.
Choose the season that fits your plans and book permits and lodges early for the busy months. Tell us your dates and interests, and we will suggest the best route for that time of year.
